Experiencing frequent, unexpected panic attacks can feel overwhelming and isolating. A racing heart, shortness of breath, or dizziness can come on suddenly and feel like a medical emergency. Many people begin avoiding the places or situations where attacks have happened. That avoidance can feel safer in the moment, but over time it can greatly limit your lifestyle and sense of independence.

At Invictus Counseling, our counselors specialize in anxiety and anxiety-related challenges, including panic. Our therapists bring advanced training, ongoing supervision, and access to expert consultation to every step of treatment.

Using proven methods including Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), iCBT, anxiety sensitivity work, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), we help you reduce the fear of physical sensations, face what you've been avoiding, and regain

confidence, calm, and control.

WHAT IS PANIC DISORDER?

Experiencing an occasional panic attack during extreme stress is common.

When panic attacks happen frequently and unexpectedly,

it may be a sign of Panic Disorder.

Panic Disorder is an anxiety-related condition characterized by sudden and intense episodes of fear known as panic attacks. Because the symptoms

can feel similar to a medical emergency, the experience can

be frightening and debilitating.

Panic can affect much more than the moment an attack happens. The good news is that panic symptoms can be reduced with practical, evidence-based therapy.

Anxiety Attacks

Anxiety attacks involve sudden and intense episodes of fear, with symptoms such as a rapid heartbeat, shortness of breath, sweating, or feelings of detachment. Because these symptoms can feel like a medical emergency, the experience can be frightening and debilitating. Counseling helps you understand what fuels these attacks and develop tools to manage them.

Agoraphobia with Panic

Many people with Panic Disorder start avoiding situations or places where attacks have occurred, sometimes leading to agoraphobia. This can involve a fear of being trapped or unable to escape, and lead to avoiding crowded areas, public transportation, or leaving home alone. Counseling helps you gradually re-enter feared situations and work toward greater independence and confidence.

OUR EVIDENCE-BASED APPROACH TO PANIC TREATMENT

ACCEPTANCE & COMMITMENT THERAPY (ACT) & iCBT
These approaches engage the cognitive side of how anxiety impacts your mental wellness. They help you respond differently to panic when it shows up.

EXPOSURE & RESPONSE PREVENTION (ERP)
ERP helps you gradually and safely face feared situations and sensations. At the same time, it reduces avoidance and safety behaviors that keep panic going.

ANXIETY SENSITIVITY WORK
The fear of physical sensations, such as a racing heart or shortness of breath, often drives panic attacks. Anxiety sensitivity work reduces that fear so the sensations lose their hold.
COGNITIVE BEHAVIORAL THERAPY (CBT)
CBT helps you identify and challenge the thought patterns that fuel panic. It often includes goal-oriented exercises and practice between sessions so you make real progress.
